Rather than honor the man with a State Funeral, we as a nation should
listen to the wisdom Neil Armstrong spoke in the years before his death and
honor him by re-investing in manned space flight. The last manned flight
beyond LEO (low earth orbit) was Apollo 17, in 1972. For 40 years we have
not ventured as far as those men of the Apollo program did, and we are now
left with zero capability of putting any men in space whatsoever, LEO or
otherwise. It a strange twist of irony we now rely on the Russians to send
Americans to orbit and NASA has no serious vision for manned space
exploration going forward. NASA, like most government programs, are now
simply relegated as pawns to a dysfunctional political system that has no
basis in science , truth or fact, only sensational idealism and hyperbole.
Godspeed Mr. Armstrong.
(and Bill I would love to see your footage digitized and shared someday!)
