Hi Tony;

You don't have to remove the front of the car. I've found removing the lock
carrier and unbolting the fan from the viscous clutch gives adequate access.
There are 5 mm holes drilled into the front of the pulley that drives the
clutch. You use a pin wrench to hold the pulley stationary while removing
the nut. I made a pin wrench by riveting a couple of pins into two pieces of
flat stock, but the wrenches are commercially available. I remove the
serpentine belt tensioner to give me access to get the pin wrench on the
pulley.

Subject: [s-cars] Removing Fan Clutch

Hi folks,

A question on fan clutch replacement. Can one remove the fan clutch without
taking the front off the car. I can access the 1 1/4 nut that secures the
fan clutch to the shaft but by holding the nut of the power steering pump
pulley will the fan clutch undo? I've got a feeling that it will just rotate
the shaft.

Any BTDT to assist will be most helpful.

Thanks,

Tony
