Like I mentioned in my post, different folks have had widely varying experiences with the alternatives to stock. I personally have had a totally trouble-free experience with my Apikol kit, including the vented cover.
YRMV.....greatly.

Just a data point.
I tried an Apkol kit, and enjoyed nothing but headaches. (not to mention, if
you run the kit even with their cover, as the stock cover doesn't fit, tons
of shit falls down around your plugs, with the potential for it to fall into
your engine when pulling a plug. PITA ass, really). The kit was installed by
a highly reputable Denver shop that has extensive experience with S cars
when I was having a bunch of other stuff done to my car at the same time.
I switched back to stock after a year of being pissed off at the Apkol kit.
I'm much happier now. No issues at all. I'm running the MTM Stage 1 mod.
After all, the original equipment lasted over 150k. I can live with that
again.
