I would think his offering them to the list first, as opposed to putting them in the marketplace or on fleabay was doing "service" enough. I still hold my position, which I'm glad The Librarian shares, that $275 was fair market value for them, not a gouge or obscene profit-taking measure.  I don't have a set myself, I have the 6-volume actual service manuals from the dealer, which I think are similar, but maybe not as complete? I do have a handful of vintage skateboards though, and they sometimes inspire me to work on my car, which is good enough for me. :-)

It sounds like my manuals are holding their value better than my car!

There are several pages with sticky note bookmarks, but so far no greasy
fingerprints... I always copy the relevant pages to take out to the
garage... the manuals live on the lower shelf of our living room bookcase
(providing good low CG stability to the bookcase!)
