[s-cars] VW Phaeton opinions?

So my Dad has asked me to look into a nice "new" car for him to, as he says
"finish out my driving career".  He's a young 77 yrs. old as of December.
 He has never owned anything but American cars but seems to like all the
Audis I've owned over the last 12-15yrs. and is interested in branching out
a bit for this ride.  He has been a Cadillac/Buick guy for the last 20+
years.  (I know)

So I'm looking at all the usual suspects in the used Audi world, A8, S8, A6
ect. but have also noticed the prices for used VW Phaetons seem to be very
reasonable.  Anyone have any experience with this beast?  I'm looking at
the V8's only.  The exterior styling is pretty mundane in my book, but the
things are sure feature-packed on the interior.  Not a ton of them out
there, but I think this was due to the high entry costs, and not the
quality?  AWD/Quattro is a must.

As a guide, the budget will be under say $25k and mileage must be under 75k.
