Jack,

Add Chip, H-Sport Sway bars, and good brakes pads and you're set.

So I had a S6A, which was rear-ended and totaled (not repairable, cause they
had to cut the top off to get me out). I looked around for like a couple
months or so for another S6A w/o much luck.seemed everyone selling was
asking an arm and a leg for theirs.

So I opened up the search for a new Avant, the 2002 S6s were more expensive
than what I wanted to spend, so I started to look at allroads, finally found
a 6MT with a maybe a slight bit more miles than I wanted, but my independent
inspection only found a couple little things: no apparent timing belt
replacement and it needed a new battery, so I worked the timing belt into
the purchase.off the dealer's floor for $7850.00. In light of the resale for
these I thought I had a bargain, and I probably did.

So I figured that I would just get used to what I thought were only minor
issues, but believe me the issues continue to be there!

The AR is quite a bit heavier than the 95.5 S6A, not a lot but it's heavier!
So the power to weight ratio is not beneficial to the AR.

I wasn't really looking for the height adjustable suspension, so I didn't
think it was much of an issue, it is.Replacement Audi "Air Springs" are
about $700 per corner.

There is an aftermarket solution Arnott, they sell a pair of bags for about
$700, and they carry a life time warranty to the original purchaser, they
make two versions a standard and a higher rate spring. If you purchase
anything with over 70-90,000 on it plan on needing a bag or two. Frankly
I've only used the height adjustable feature, to lower the car to L1, which
is pretty cool, if you like a slammed ride.

Body roll.so how much more roll than a stock S6A, I'd say probably twice as
much.

So there's sway bars that reduce the roll to about half of what it is, back
to almost a stock 95 S6A, not too expensive. I've got mine on the "soft
setting" and they are fine in the snow and ice, I'll probably go to the hard
setting next summer. And I feel it will be an acceptable ride, approaching
the S6A.

So I've got a totally groovy, hard to find, ultra rare 6 Speed! The stock
clutch is so soft, sometimes I can't tell if it's engaged or not, it has
hardly any feel to it

Brakes, we all know a 95 S6 has crappy brakes, the brakes on an allroad are
what S6As needed when stock, so the heavier allroads have adequate brakes
WHEN STOCK!

Wheels and tires, the allroads comes with a 17" wheel that has a funky
offset, something like ET 20 or something, so if you have wheels around
NOTHING clears the brakes and suspension.

My 95 S6A was RS2ed, the allroad is not really comparable to an RS2ed, and
we all know the life of a I5 motor is like forever! Even an RS2ed motor is
substantial.

The allroad motor.so the 2.7tt is a really cool motor. There are a million
tuners that have a ton of aftermarket gear.

So the stock KO3s have a limited life, the forums hesitate to say the life,
but once you get over the first timing belt change you're living on borrowed
time!

So I blindly thought the cost of two turbos isn't so high, ahhh but the
replacement costs are just so much of the cost. It's getting the darn things
off and back on!

The motor has to come OUT or at the very least dropped enough so you can get
to the absolute rear and top of the motor.which CAN NOT be reached with the
motor in the car.

So I start to look at going to an upgrade to the stock KO3s. Problem is
where do ya stop???

Kinda like well if I have to have the motor out, why don't I replace the
Intercoolers with something just a bit more capacity, then there's the
intake system piping. The fueling system, the exhaust system, well I'm sure
you get the idea. Just replacement turbos aren't so expensive, it's the
labor to do it all.

So would I buy another allroad? Nope.NOT IN A MILLION YEARS, unless it was
already upgraded:

Multiple sets of correct offset wheels, RS4 Clutch, 6 Piston Toureg
calipers, sway bars, turbos replaced KO4s with fueling and intake
improvements.

And your local indy able to work on the fueling system.if they don't know
the system, you could be looking to find someone that can!

Cost to do all these things, probably about $7-9K on the super cheap side!
Probably more like 8-10K!

Hey guys, with all this talk of replacing our Avants, has anyone tried the
Allroad with the manual? I know the airbag suspension is problematic but I
had always thought a manual one would be good stuff. How about one of the
Toureg V10 diesels? There is something like 620 ft lb or torque there (with
no clutch, sigh). Yea, they both are too high up for my likes but there are

not many choices. I'd be tempted to grab either of those I listed if I

found the right one.
