Take a very close look to make sure the is nothing stuck between the engine
and transmission bell housing.  I recently found that a bracket was caught
between the two creating an approx. 1/16th inch gap at the top of the motor
to tranny.  After 40,000 miles of driving this way the splines on the clutch
disc gave way. Prior to that I heard an odd noise, which I thought was the
dual mass flywheel on its way out.
