Bilsteins have a great reputation, although many find them a bit firm for a DD.
I need to replace dampers, as well as replace a broken spring on my C5 S6 (2002). So i did some research.
general concensus: Koni Sport a bit more comfortable than Bilstein, both stiffer than S6 OEM.
general concensus #2: matched sets or coilovers work better than either, if you can accept the lower ride heights.
I think i will take a gamble and put the Suspension Techniques coilover kit in. it goes -40to -75mm lower than STOCK A6. Note the S6 is already 20mm lower, so this means it rides 0.8" lower than the S6 from the factory. Marginal but ok. Its supposed to both ride and handle better than tock. we shall see.
ST is German made by KW, who make well-regarded high-end coilovers. Supposedly the ST is simply the lower level KW but not made out of solid stainless. Its galvanized. Online reviews are extraordinarily positive w/r/t construction. Of course they also praise the ability to slam the car. Sigh. Quality sounds ok by me.
List is $950/4. I will buy mine from HPA motorsports using their waterfest deal, for closer to $700.
Now on to see if i want to wrestle them in and out or give it to Euro-Tire or Mini.
