[s-cars] troubleshooting aftermarket HID's

The Quattroworld.com forums have a link to the TT retrofit procedure but it looks to have died. (see http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/ - click on the FAQ and look for the links to Electrical/Lighting). There is still a live link to cleaning the headlights for an A6 that gets you part way there. I saved a text step by step procedure on my local hard drive that is in Word format that I believe was from that original link, but it's mostly about taking the headlights apart; I see I also have a Word doc with photo's saved from the TT retrofit procedure (Fred's I believe), and I have probably about 10-15 useful pic's from 2006 when I did the retrofit on my car.

I bought a set of pre-made brackets made by a lister up in Canada that I used to mount the new TT reflectors inside the S6 buckets with some additional grinding/modifying for clearance between bucket adjusters and the brackets, and with adjustable posts to mount the brackets at the correct position for R/L and U/D alignment. I also mounted the separate ignitors inside the buckets; took a good bit of head scratching to do all this modding but I did get them correctly aligned with the other lights in the bucket (the stock adjusters for the bucket reflectors does the rest). The ballasts were mounted outside and I had to seal them up, provide power, etc. but that was relatively easy compared to the rest.

I scanned a the brackets and saved as a PDF; (I think it was Miniman that had them made originally) I still have that PDF if anyone is interested, but the scan is of the actual bracket without dimensions so I can't say that it's exactly what you need.

Let me know if anyone wants any of the info I have rat-packed.

Is there a FAQ somewhere for this upgrade?

I have to agree with Fred and Lee - My S6A has the TT projectors and electronics (bought used off ebay) and they are amazing for driving in the Oregon gloom of winter rainy season! About 5 or so years on this stuff; I also was able to buy the E-code HID front glass long ago when they were available. Took a bit of work for mounting the reflectors inside the buckets and electronics in the engine bay, wasn't exactly cheap, but the results were first rate, and no issues so far with the same headlights in two S6A's.

If you are planning on keeping the car for a while, now would be a perfect time to retrofit the tt projectors and A6 electronics. It's not a simple plugin, but it is bulletproof. I've got two of these setups that are 5+ years old. No issues.
