[s-cars] No start??

 Gentelmen:

Thanks for all the replies.? It is now fixed so here is my addition to the general bank of knowledge.

The initial problem was the total corrosion or the copper braid between the solenoid and the starter.? The replacement unit, just like the original, has 2 spade lugs on the solenoid.? The replacement unit ( a Bosch factory rebuild) had a mating spade lug connector on one of the lugs.? Presumably to be used in case the original was damaged - mine was fine.? That was the lug that I connected my ignition +12V to.? Problem - wrong lug - connected to the other lug and it started right up.? Other interesting item -? original solenoid has a recessed or protected area where high current connections are made, rebuilt solenoid does not have this "protection."? I tightened down the cables so I do not think they will rotate up towards the frame and even if they did I think I would still have a third of an inch clearance but I'd prefer the protection the original solenoid has.

Mark near Chicago - off to McCormick for day 3 of the RSNA? ?

It's also possible the alarm got triggered somehow. Just lock and unlock the
driver's door with the key and see if anything changes.

parked the car a few days ago. An hour later wife goes to move it, comes back in
and said everything looked normal but nothing happened when she turned the key.?
I go out and she is right.? Next day changed the ignition switch as most
probable cause but not feeling good on that 'cause old switch feels great.?
Change switch - no change - no start, no clicky on solenoid.? Decide to check
for power at starter.? There is battery power to the solenoid and control power
(from the key switch) but then I notice that the braid on the starter to
solenoid has rotted through.? So I figured it was the starter.? Replaced the
starter with a Bosch rebuilt unit.? Tried to start it up - nothing.? Everything
looks proper - OK light comes on, alarm works normally, idiot lights look fine,
have 12VDC.? Any been there - found that - out there?
