[s-cars] Getting old. Somebody here *might* relate. (UrS-related)

Dave I can totally relate. In 2004 when the timing belt tensioner let go on
the A4 1.8T I bought a star drive bit to remove the head and do the work.
At some point between then and now I remember being asked by a local VW
enthusiast if he could borrow it to do some other work on his car. Quite
honestly I could not remember whether I a. loaned it to him or b. got it
back but one thing was for certain and that is that I could not find it when
I discovered I needed it to pull the head on the 7A in my 90. That was the
second problem.... the first was I could not remember the person's name who
inquired about it. Figuring I had lent it out I went to the dealer to get
another one. When I got home that night I started working on the car and
low and behold I found it... in my freaking tool box! I'm only 42!
Thankfully since they had to order the tool I was able to cancel it the
next morning and never had to pay for the second one.

Recently, I couldn't find the 034121143E coolant adapter/flange/connecting
sockethttp://12v.org/urs/AANWithCoolantFittingPNs.jpg that I thought I had
in my spares box (I
was doing an inventory of my spares at the time of doing my "Things that
will fail on your AAN and
strand you" post(http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/200702.phtml ).
Nope not there.
Hmm....Then I decided that I has passed on it and didn't buy it (around $50)
a couple of years ago.
So I went to my local OE parts pusher (Kris at VM Autohaus) to a) check
out the Boleros he has
there and b) to order an 034121143E adapter/flange. Kris looks at me funny
and says, "I thought
you bought one already". I said, "I thought so too but I couldn't find
it". So Kris checks my parts
purchasing history and yep, I bought one in the summer of 2010. Hmmm...
He had one in stock (and the N 90035103 O-ring), so I bought them. (For the
spares box). (I can return it IF I find the other one).
On the way back home, I am thinking, I probably took advantage of the fact I
had the coolant out of
the engine when I did the timing belt in July 2010. I know I did the rubber
turbo coolant return hose
so I *should* have done the coolant flange/adapter at the same time.
Or did I? (I'll have to wait for the engine to cool down and have a look).
I guess, I need to leave notes for myself. (Duh)
Permission to laugh.
