Good call Taka. When I lived in VT as an addicted ski nazi my studded Hakkas were the best. When I lived in DC I could enjoy my summer performance tires 99% of the calendar and a waste of time to swap anything else. Living in between geographically when I still skied a lot, major unstudded but hard core snows made a lot of sense for regular roadies, but now that i dont the fact that I carry 2 full sets of A-max in the family seems overkill... I'm actually prob running all seasons only on a RWD this winter (... Well... also still a Quattro in the driveway... For now...)

But as you say what the goal is makes all the difference. FWIW Altimax are great as snows but weak in sidewall compared to more road-oriented and advanced tire tech... Depends on what one needs...
