[s-cars] Turbo....anyone have a loaner or one for cheap?

Jim,
The 1st thing I would do is take the maf to turbo hose off and check to see
if the turbo is spinning freely. You can just reach down and it should spin
just by turning with your fingers. It may be that you have a failed N75
wastegate frequency valve which would only allow 7-8 psi of boost, which
isn't much and may feel like a dead turbo because you're used to much more.
I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong but when turbos go bad, they usually
do really bad things like make really bad noise and throw oil through the
exhaust, making a smoky mess.
The k24 is a very robust turbo and short of being beaten mercilessly and
neglected, they seem to hold up really well. I wouldn't jump to the turbo
failure conclusion yet.
All the luck!

Subject: [s-cars] Turbo....anyone have a loaner or one for cheap?
Gentlemen,
I am increasingly realizing that my problems don't lie within the usual
suspects......everything I have replaced thus far are items that would fail
soon anyway since I'm at around 140K miles, such as fuel pump, bleeder
valve, etc. I have seen a gradual decline in performance within the last
month, to the point that I don't even hear the turbo spooling up at all, and
I am struggling to get up to speed on the highway ramps.....literally feels
like a normally aspirated engine now, lugging around a very heavy car! So,
seeing as the turbo used to at least "scream" (literally) for the last 90K
miles (since I bought the car) and now doesn't even whimper or slightly
whistle, I think that is my next plan of attack. A few questions....
1. Anyway to "test" the turbo in my driveway without pulling it out......I
doubt it, but thought I'd ask.
2. Anyone have a stock AAN turbo collecting dust somewhere that they are
willing to let go cheap, or willing to lend to me so I can at least see if
this is my issue, then I can either source a decent used or rebuild mine? I
am unfortunately not having a second vehicle to drive while I figure this
out, and need to drive this baby everyday to work. I am vigorously
searching for a second beater vehicle, but have not come across the right
deal yet.
3. If it is indeed the turbo, am I damaging the engine at all by continuing
to drive it? I don't want to screw things up more just due to my need for
transportation.
Despite the recent difficulties, I still love the car......just want her
back running well.
Thanks all....and best regards,
