Insulated windshield has muted my V1 and the EZ Pass.

Two options...install new windshield, uninsulated.

Relocate EZ Pass and V1.

I'm leaning toward the latter.

EZPass can be swapped for license plate mounted unit...that's easy. V1
is a bit more work. Has anybody built or bought a waterproof box for a
V1 and mounted it in the front grille? On my C5 A6, I do have plenty of
room behind the lower grille. And I've seen conflicting research on
whether mounting high or low is more effective. In the grille, I
certainly would lose rear sensitivity, but most radar/laser threats come
from the front.

I already have the remote readout installed, will need to pick up a
remote volume control.

Here's one box that might be workable:

I think this will fit nicely behind the lower grille. Looks like it
might need some waterproofing...there doesn't appear to be a gasket
provided.

Others munge up a Pelican case:

Comments appreciated.

Anyone BTDT?

...or next time I get a rock chip, should I just have a non-insulated
windshield installed, and be done with it? (Glass coverage has no
deductible in my state, so there's no cost to replacing the windshield...)

Thanks,

Lee
