Ahhh motorcycular radar.... reminds me of something I'd forgotten
completely which was the sweet setup I had on one of my GPz's years
ago. A Passport (when that was the thing to have) hard mount in a
sneaky spot inside the OEM fairing where I could slip it in and lock
into place swapping between the car/bike quickly. Earphone wire run
under the saddle to the crotchular area and could run the wire up inside
my riding suit jacket to a jack at the back of my helmet.. Very stealth
(used to drive through the no-radar law states often back when that was
more of an issue and never got nabbed) but very effective. That was a
good mod, thanks for the flashback. Whoa flashback to going 100+ on
motorcycles frequently. Heh heh those were the days. Glad I'm still
tellin' the tales.
Re: the car, using the remote V1 display and cleverly mounting it and
then weatherproofing the main unit is almost the 'easy' part... the
problem is losing the great V1 front/back sensing, which remote mounting
is bound to do.
I've been around this a bit for my M3 'vert as I don't like 'having my
unit exposed' when I'm cruising top down. (entendres galore there), but
have yet to find a satisfactory solution. Some guys mount them on the
rear deck in a modded OEM alarm sensor housing so it looks like some
proper part of the car, but still has windows front/rear. However it
the forward receptivity is significantly impacted from this approach,
and it means if you ever park top-down in public and some
curious/nefarious passer-by grabs it you might lose your V1. And the
"easy" weatherproof mount in front again loses the rearward visibility
factor and therefore all the directionality benefit of the V1. All this
not the problem that was orginally posted but just to say - yeah I've
been thinking about it too. For now I've got it tucked down on the dash
at the A pillar, almost invisible to spectators but again sacrificing
its rear visibility. Ideally V1 would offer a model that was modular,
front/rear antennas separated for mounting as you wish, then the main
unit or remote display can go inside... I've thought about hacking one
apart but they're a bit pricey for tearing into as a hackable project...
but maybe some day I'll give it a whack...

Valentine and the instructions with the case both warn against running for long periods of time with the unit fully enclosed due to the heat that is generated. They suggest leaving the V1 attached the the base half and only adding the top when the weather gets foul.

I guess you need to have some impact protection? I wonder of you could open the unit and just relocate the sensors. They might be soldered onto a board, but if they're just wired, it would be easy to extend the wiring.
