[s-cars] Maybe it's the ECU after all

Thanks Tom,

Cleared the codes today, as well as checked the boost line (seems just fine.) I checked the codes before I drove off, they were indeed clear. I checked the codes again after a 5 min test drive and they were back again. "2222"

To summarize all I've done thus far......

Replaced the one-way bleeder valve and the PCV valve.
Fuel pump was replaced 3 months ago.
Fuel Pressure Regulator and fuel filter were replaced 6 months ago.
Cleaned the connections to the WGFV and the MAF sensors.
Cleaned the MAF sensor with appropriate MAF sensor cleaner.
Checked the operation of the Wastegate (also pinched off the tube leading to WGFV, no boost)
Checked the easily accessible side (front) of the turbo, spins freely, no visible damage and little to no shaft play.
Just changed the oil last week and found no little bits of metal
Pressure test reveals no obvious vacuum leaks, though I still have a little air coming out the rear of the valve cover, not as much as before I replaced the one-way bleeder valve and PCV, but still have some leakage. Have new valve cover gasket, just need to replace it.

Code is still "2222" after resetting ECU and taking one 5 min. test drive.

Me thinks it's got to be the ECU. Anyone in the mountains of Colorado have one I can swap in? Not sure if the car will make it over the mountain passes to get to Denver. Maybe I can arrange something else as well. Any thoughts?

All the suggestions are much appreciated.....I'm sure I've already saved hundreds of dollars in diagnostics by all of your help thus far!

Best regards,

I would clear the codes and recheck after several drives to see if they return. When working with the ECU, make sure you follow all the precautions for electronic parts and make sure you do not disconnect/connect the ECU with the ignition on and wait a minimum of 30 sec after removing power. I recommend that you check the security of the connector to the ECU and then remove it again and check the condition of all the pins to make sure one is not bent, etc.

You need to verify the boost line all the way from the ECU to the intake manifold, and the lines at the WGFV before deciding you have a valid code for the transducer. There are several aftermarket transducers available now that have variable settings, including one for stock chips, so a replacement should not be expensive.

Many thanks to all who have given some sage advice over the course of today......after checking out my turbo and wastegate, each checked out okay. I gained access to my ECU, checked the intake pressure line, was intact, and then disconnected the ECU from the wiring harness for a bit. I reattached it, buttoned it all up and went for a drive. No change in performance. Pulled the codes and got a "2222"......

2222 (Blink Fault Code), 00519 VAG1551/2 Fault Code Number
    ECU Internal Pressure sensor (G71)
    Pressure sensor defective,
Repair or replace ECU or replace internal pressure sensor

So, looking for an ECU to swap out at this point and see if that's the issue, which I would guess by the codes that it is. Anyone have one they can spare?

Let me know if I'm finally on the right track, and if there is anything more I can do at this point besides swap out an ECU.

Also curious as to how this might happen? Any thoughts?

Thanks again......maybe there's light at the end of the tunnel. (Then again, it could be an oncoming train!)
