[s-cars] Aftermarket Coil Pack advice.....

I was an early adopter of 1.8 coils, with a did-it-my-self setup, using various junkyard parts. It worked great for quite a while, but eventually i had running issues that didn't seem to be just one coil going bad - they just sort of all deteriorated at the same time. Just for fun, I reinstalled the old stock system, and it started running great again. That was about a year ago, and I run copper electrode plugs with a fairly small gap, and have great success. Granted, my 1.8 coils were not all the latest revision, so replacing them with the latest would have probably worked out OK too. In the future, I think I may go for the LS2 coils or the 034 high output coils with built in TTL driver. Those seem to be permanent solutions, and would allow me to use a decent plug gap to get a big spark under all boost conditions.

I know there have been some issues with 1.8/2.0 coils in the past. Not sure how the LS2 coils are holding up. I've been on the fence, leaning towards OEM, but been repeatedly instructed to consider the other options. Original plan was to buy a single OEM to get me back on the road, then gradually replace the rest as summer paychecks roll in. Considering how much time that may entail laborwise in the long run, thinking that's not a great plan.
