Well, AAN upper hardened (701B) rod bearings are 48.00each on ECS site. Those are not available aftermarket. Add the lower (701) Audi brand, true original AAN rod bearings will run you 350set. IME with the hardened uppers, anything over 20psi, the hardened uppers are a necessary evil.

Thanks Scott. Now the rod bearings will be replaced too as I don't recall spending that much for them. Again, not up to I5+Turbo standards.

BTDT2 several time in I5 20vt including S4/6. OE rings and run the flex hone down the cylinders to get previous glazing off. rod bearings 'upper' are hardened and not cheap. Lowers are standard issue. The good thing is if those shells are good pan removal (not head) is all that is required to do rod bearings.
For just rings leave the engine in the car... It is a weekend project that way.
