I have replaced both with cable ties. Been working just fine for a few
months now.

This of course happened to me at the very first cars & coffee after I bought
my car. I was able to fish the release out with the tip of a screwdriver..
we used a cable tie to replace the clip, same as you.


Got love the stuff that goes brittle with the passing of the years.
