Paul...before you go too far, liberally spray the latching mechanism with wd40 or equivalent from the striker side... If the function improves, then the grease inside is either contaminated with gunk, or hardened...remove the door panel, carefully disconnect the linkages, pull out the latch assy, carrefully dissamble, clean with brake cleaner or the like, grease and re assemble...
