I personally would be uncomfortable running dino in ANY turbo vehicle, temps at the turbo get remarkably high and the random distribution of polymer molecules in dino leave a number of chains capable of coking. Even the distilled (extracted?) synths (looking at you Castrol Syntec!) have much more uniform molecular distribution and are much less likely to coke.
Did your tech say why he recommended the switch? If his thought was, at 245K miles, the car hasn't long for this world, save some money on the oil, I guess it'd make sense, but if the M1 5W-30 has been working well with no changes over time, why mess with it?
