[s-cars] door release froze broke?

Hi guys, Thanks much for the support. My 95 S6 Avant froze up a bit last
week (Ice on windows, doors etc) and somehow the interior passenger door
release pull no longer works. I figure we snapped something trying to open
it while it was froze.  I removed the door panel (hey, why is there no wire
to this cute little tweeter?) and I can follow the pushrod all the way to
the door latch and it seems to be trying to actuate in there.  The outside
latch works fine.  Before I remove the latch (do I need to remove the window
assembly first?) should I source a replacement? Has anyone ever BTDT that
wants to offer any advise?
