You may be looking at the reverse switch, which turns on the back-up lights when the trany is put in reverse.

I have doing some work on my 95 urs6 and it had the 6 speed edu
transmission install done. When looking on the bell housing of the
transmission on the passengers side, I see a plug that connects to sesnsor
there and trying to find out what it is. Is it another speed sensor?
