Hey Mark
I can only offer that I have two +20 something daughters with VW's.
One, an '06 golf bought in '07 with 6,000 miles... No issues
Dependable.
Dtr 2, '09 Tiguan bought last summer 36k certified, blower fan only blows on high... Fixed afaik:)
To me the golf makes good sense as its small enough to be easy to handle, get good mileage, but big enough to haul a buch O crap and offers a chance to withstand an unfortunate bender.
In the car biz, it's really supply / demand, timing etc.
Best is to try get in the ballpark and make a deal or make yourself crazy trying to get the last penny.
I like cars a year or two old that can oft times appear nearly as new... For significant savings. The golf was for sure.
Be patient and remember a 4 yr graduate is worth $30k :)
