[s-cars] Electric Fan not working

For your concern about coolant temps, you can check the climate
control reading to verify that the dash gauge is correct. The climate
control section of the quattroworld UrS forum FAQ has details. That
should give you confidence that driving the vehicle is ok.
I suspect the coolant warning light is a coolant quantity alert rather
than a temperature alert. If you disconnect the float level sensor
wires from the bottom of the coolant tank, that might confirm that
there is a malfunction in that sensor. I doubt you would have a
temperature alert in the autocheck when the temp guage and sensors
report normal temps.
You already received several responses for checking the fan. Follow
that advice from Ed and check the fan relay in the plenum area relay
box just in front of the drivers side windscreen.
You should check if the electric fan turns freely by hand. When I
first got my avant and checked out a noisy fan, the blade almost fell
off in my hand. If there is no power to the fan, I would
check the large (60amp) fuse in the drivers kick panel. It takes a
few minutes work to remove the panel, but you need to know if you have
no power to the fan.
If your test of the relay by shunting the connections with a wire show
power to the fan but it doesn't turn, you might help it start by hand-
carefully, since it is very strong-remember the 60 amp fuse?
