[s-cars] Time to move on?

I've got a '94 S4 in very good mechanical condition, a few mods (Lehman Stage 1, 993/S6+ BBK, '92 springs/sachs advantage, etc), excellent interior and a good body (not perfect, but good).  However, I drive almost exclusively in the city (UrS is more of a highway car, IMO), have two kids, and no longer have time to really mess with my cars.  I'm starting a new job this fall that will, initially, be a significant pay cut, but second year will be noticeably more than I make now.  I go through this every couple of years, but I'm wondering if now is the time to sell.  Considering a 2010 Mk6 GTI 4 door with manual trans.  Frankly, the roads around here (Minneapolis) are in such bad condition, and so boring to begin with (flat/straight) that a really good handling car (M3, etc) has started to seem to be a bit of a waste in my aging mind.  GTI should be enough of a "drivers car" to keep me interested, although I will miss quattro in the winter.  I'm
debating if selling it now (sale price ought to cover one year of payments on the GTI), or stick with it another 2-3 years and try to get a Mk7 GTI (lighter, more powerful, and most importantly in my mind factory "real" limited slip diff available).  Motivations for the newer car are: much less niggling annoyances that need attention, less annual maintenance expense, better ride quality, probably more fun to drive in town, and safer in an accident.

Rambling, I know, which reflects my state of mind on this issue.

Thoughts?
