Jerry,
I went with Audi Wholesale Parts, Mission Viejo, CA. The price was $112 + $50 core.
The price maybe a wash with your dealer when you add in shipping. Of course, that
may be offset by sales tax. I chose them because I ordered a few other weird parts
which they had.
Good luck,
Mark

The only place I have found the original pump is at the dealer and they want
$140 with an added core charge of $50. Fortunately, I kept the original
pump. They will only take a core with the Audi rings stamped on the metal.
Does anyone have a better source for an OE pump? The pump that is leaking
now in my car is a Hepu German made, but not the Audi OE and has 48,000
miles. I also recommend only using the OE unit with the four Audi rings,
from the dealer.

Gentlemen:
Its about time for my post. Regarding the water pump I STRONGLY recommend
not using a non-OEM water pump.
About 2 months ago I was in line at McDonald's drive through getting
breakfast. The S6 started making a bunch of nasty noises and then quit.
Check engine light was on etc. I started it up and crawled over to the side
and wisely called a tow truck. To make a long story short my 26,000 mile
water pump froze up, ate 3/4 of each tooth on the timing belt and deposited
the rubber on top of the timing belt gear. Luckily it did not jump time. I
replaced the belt, water pump and a few other ugly items.
Where did the pump come from? One of the well known non-dealer parts
suppliers. No sh!t won't do that again.
And thanks to one of our members who lent me his 3256 tool.
Learn from my mistake,
Mark near Chicago

That was my symptom as well. I originally had a load of water leaks due to
ageing (car had reached 18 years and 160k miles). The water pump wasn't that
old, so I discounted it originally and concentrated on the bad leaks -
radiator, plastic flange at rear of block, expansion tank. After replacing
all of these, one leak remained with water appearing at the bottom front of
the block - this turned out to be the pump.
