Gotta lubz innerwebz where people will argue with you then make basically the exact same point.  No time to read. Just post and argue.   I said I would and do exactly that and have such a cable as well as agreeing w toms identical advice.  Guess the 3 $ was enraging somehow.  Otherwise we agree.  

However I do think it's a bit in the bubble elitist to poo poo guys who don't see the ROI on $300 for a pre-OBDII car and in fact might be scraping for every quality oil change they can. I've met a lot of those guys. For them $125 for lite plus a cable fully does the job for now.  Don't see the need for such condemnation for those people not going full boat.
