[s-cars] front control arm bushings '95 S6

Jeremiah,

FWIW, I did a complete rebuild of my front and rear suspension earlier this year. I used the parts list referenced below and I replaced all parts labeled "1" on that list (i.e. those parts strongly recommended for replacement). I had my mechanic do the work. I've been driving on the new parts for about 5 months and it feels like new. Squeaks, rattles and thumps are gone. Well worth the price and effort IMO. I purchased almost all the parts from genuineaudiparts.com. I did not try to save money with aftermarket brands - I figured if I was going to do this I may as well do it right, and only do it once!

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or thoughts along the way.

Thanks Tom,

That is great information. I looked on the other site, but should have looked at quattroworld.

The thing I can't figure out is the Blau kit includes 2 large nuts, 2 small nuts and 4 medium nuts. What would the 4 medium nuts be for?

thanks,
Jeremiah

This link from the Quattroworld UrS4/6/S2/RS2 forum FAQ has a parts breakdown as well as other information. The #11 bolts that fit through the #10 sleeves to secure the control arm inner attachment to the subframe and the #14 bolt, #15 nut that secures the ball joint on the control arm outer end to the strut housing and
#8 sway bar nut are the must replace hardware parts on the lower suspension. I didn't mean to include the #10 sleeves as they don't need replacing unless you can't remove them undamaged. The control arm is captured until you remove the sleeves. There is a lot of discussion on the QW forum about this issue that you can find using the search tool there . Much of it will be in the FAQ already.
The Blau price is probably so high because they sourced the sleeves from the Audi genuine parts at a dealer. These are ~ $25 each and #11 is ~ $7.50 ea. Regardless, I don't like Blau or Meyle as a source for critical parts since you don't know the source, but can be sure some come from India or China with suspect material testing and hardness specs. You can do better by using the parts numbers provided and ordering online from genuineaudiparts.com (San Diego Audi online
parts) or Milburn Audi if you can still get registered for Carson Heter's prices. This probably takes a week of lead time to receive parts so it requires advance planning.

Hang on to that link for the FAQ information on torque specs that you will need later.
