Subject: [s-cars] Power Steering Mounting Bracket update....
Hey guys,
So, I sourced the appropriate bracket from my local Audi dealer (it had to come from Germany) and have my car at a local body shop to make the welding repair. One thing that he mentioned is that since this is what could be considered a "Safety issue," seeing as it could have failed to the point of not being able control the car, he was wondering at the possibility of this being a recall situation. I spoke to the local Audi dealer where I got the part, and of course there is no such recall. So, wondering if there was any effort to make Audi aware of this issue, and if there were enough of these failures to warrant an inquiry. With as many urS4/S6 , 100/A6 cars out there, was this common, or am I just one of the lucky ones?
What strikes me as interesting is that Audi supposedly manufactured a beefier bracket in response to the failures of the factory installed unit. Makes me think there is something to that....
Thoughts or previous experiences with this? Thanks!
