[s-cars] Doors locking by themselves and Windows not working intermittently

Hey all,
Hope the Holidays were good to everyone!
I've had a few instances over the last month or two where the doors would lock by themselves. Usually it has happened when the car was parked and I was away from the car, but it did happen once when I was in the car, with the car running. A little weird....
Also, I have noticed that sometimes I am unable to operate the windows....any or all of them....and the lighted background on the drivers-side switches is unlit at the same time. I have been able to shut the car off and restart to have full functionality restored and a lit panel, but it took a few times last night and I had an open window at the time I could not close....
This is on a '95 S6 avant, and I have repaired the wiring loom at the hatch once already, probably 3-4 years ago. I will say that I rarely use the hatch anymore, and there has been no perceived immediate relation to my locking/window difficulties and my hatch use. I have not checked the wiring at the driver's door (just occurred to me!)
The remote key fob has never worked for the 8 years I've owned the car, so I'm not mistakenly hitting the "lock" button....
Any thoughts? Believe it or not, this is one of the first electrical difficulties I've had in any of my Audis, and I've had at least 10 or 11 of them over the years!
Thanks for the help.....this car has been rock-solid for me for 120K miles, with some of the usual stuff going wrong, of course....
Best regards,
Jim Fleischer
