Had two fuel pump failures on Audis - one on an A100 and one on an S6 -
both well over 100k miles. Got no warning, noise or otherwise, of either
(other than age and mileage of car). Both were instant and permanent.
Perceived wisdom seems to be to change FP every 100k miles whether it's
noisy or not.

You can't rule out the G28 Engine Speed Sensor - if that's not indicating
engine rotation, the fuel pump doesn't run.

You need to read the following couple of pages at a minimum:
http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/trouble_shooting/fuelpump.htm
http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/22580.phtml

Not the best weather to suffer this problem!

Paul
