Thanks Tom. The "bite-to-wire" is the crimp at the top of the flex hose, as you describe. I've seen this reference on a number of hydraulic parts suppliers. So, the hose itself cannot be repaired. OK, thanks for that info.
I do have a used part I have a lead on.
Thanks
Tony

Subject: [s-cars] hydraulic "J" hose question
Tony,
The J hose supplies hydraulic pressure through the accumulator to the brake servo from the piston pump section on front of the hydraulic pump. This restrictor dampens those piston pulses. (There is a restrictor in the center of the power steering hose also that can be found by the slight bulge in the center.)
Before starting a repair, it is important not to damage the fat insulation on the j hose that is getting soaked with hydraulic fluid by now. I don t have a clue what your description of the leak location means, so you need to elaborate there. The usual leak source is at the crimp at the top of the flexible hose section, and it runs inside the insulation and drips out at the connection to the accumulator. YMMV. The banjo fittings are sealed with o-rings so leaks can occur there also.
I believe you can still buy a new j hose. Milburn Audi is listing it for ~$330. Don Smith keeps a spare hose on hand that has been repaired by Spokane Hose. They have done 30 hoses for me personally, so they know how to do this repair. You could send your hose to HOH but using Don saves you the down time while you ship yours off. As a Canadian maybe Don can decode your message.
Your question, where is the restrictor? It is in the center of the flexible hose section secured by a metal crimp on the outside of the hose. Can you build your own fitting .? No, you can not, I can not, and HOH can not because we have no metric hose clamps. This old hose can not be cut evenly to put a new crimp on it if you had one and dies for the crimping machine. Disturbing the hose would likely fill the little filter screen on the restrictor with rubber debris making the hose unusable as well.
