[s-cars] CEL/MIL light on/off occasionally, loss of power, codes...

Thanks for the reply Tom,

After clearing the codes and driving for a few days without the CEL coming on, it finally did yesterday. My antiquated method of blinking codes revealed just the 2113 - CPS code. So , I know I've replaced it once or twice already with the splice, is that still an option out there, or do I need to replace the whole deal? Any suggestions and links appreciated. Thanks!

Best regards,

I would stock in a replacement part for the CPS, Jim. Either the sensor to splice in or the entire part from efiexpress.com. These things seldom deposit a false DTC. From the codes you reported, I deduce that you are still blinking out the codes. Even the Chinese use the cheap eBay cable and free software from ross-tech to read the DTCs. This method also provides more information about the cause of each code. With the blinking MIL, you can probably safely assume that some conditions are intermittent, probably the CPS fault. Check the connector at thefront of the fuel rail to make sure it is not damaged. If you are using the stock Bosch plugs, the gap is set at the factory. If they are old enough that the gap has changed, you need new plugs. Using a gapping tool on the platinum plated electrodes will do nothing but damage the plug. I would attribute the mixture DTC to a misfire before just changing the O2 sensor unless it has 30K miles on it already. For any MAF issues, check the connector to make sure no pins have recessed in the connector and are not providing a good circuit. Cleaning the pins and/or using Deoxit or Stabilant 22 to enhance the connections sometimes helps also.Hopefully the ECU issue was just a spurious code, but with the age of the vehicles some pressure sensor failures are starting to appear. It would take 15-20 minutes, then would stay on for a minute or two, then go off...sometimes would come on again for a few seconds, then off the rest of the trip. Sometimes it would reappear, sometimes it would not come on at all. I only today lost some power, like the turbo wasn't spooling up. So, I pulled the codes and got:2113 Camshaft Position Sensor2324 MAF (Mass Airflow) Sensor2413 Mixture Adjustment2222 Pressure Sensor Defective G71/Bad ECUSo, I know I have a small crack at the turbo side connection in my MAF/Turbo hose, but still holds pressure when pressure tested (I suspected that so I just pressurized the intake)...more air was coming out the oil cap than anywhere else. Wondering where to look next....BTW, the car was fitted with the wrong thermostat during a timing belt replacement, and I've been running a little cool on some really cold days this winter, or running while downhill on the passes. I've already received the new thermostat and plan on replacing it this week...I've read that low running temp can cause rich mixture....possible reason for the 2413 code? Also, please tell me I don't need a new ECU due to the 2222 code.....or that I need to crack it open....Thanks all....and best regards,Jim Fleischer'95 urS6 avant...CEL blinky blinkyGentz,So, I figured I would clean things up a little and see if I could improve things a bit....I pulled the MAF and cleaned it with MAF cleaner, I pulled the MAF to Turbo hose and reinforced the cracks along the turbo hose clamp, I pulled the spark plugs, cleaned them up and re-gapped them, and pulled the fuse to the ECU to reset it. I went for a quick ride up the road, seems like the boost is back, and I checked for codes and now all is clear. I'll drive to work tomorrow and report back if any change...Happy Sunday!Jim Fleischer'95 urS6 avant
