[s-cars] Blau Headlight Harness Instructions?

Mike,

I had this harness on my S6 for 10+ years. I don't have the
instructions but I can describe it's basic procedure. I also don't have
the harness installed anymore. Blau touted the harness to protect the
light stalk on the steering column from shorting out but mine shorted
out anyway over the years. Too frequently the relays built into the
Blau harness burned up due to not being weather tight yet located under
the hood - I had various headlights go out 4-5 times per year every
year. To me it wasn't worth the hassle and it didn't protect my light
stalk as it wore out anyway. Since I removed the harness I haven't had
any headlight outages (of course this was after I replaced the light stalk).

One more comment about the Blau harness and then I'll get back to your
question. For me, I got the harness to address the E-Code headlights
with built-in city lights or DLRs. The stock headlights and E-Code
headlights all have 5-pins on the housing connector. The US-spec
headlights only use 4 pins - Hi, Low, Fog, and Negative. The Blau
harness includes 5 conductors to activate the city DLRs spliced into the
parking lights for control. Since I removed the Blau harness, I just
opened the stock headlight wiring connector and added a 5th wire lead
for the city DLRs.

To connect the Blau harness, you disconnect your stock headlight harness
from the headlight housings; connect the passenger side stock headlight
harness to the Blau harness to provide control to the relays. Then
route the Blau harness to each headlight housing (I ran mine under the
radiator support). Then the Blau harness needs 12V power and ground. I
ran to the Positive post under the hood on the passenger side firewall
and found a bolt on the cross member under the radiator for the ground.
My issue was always with where the relays are located and with my
installation they were under my passenger headlight and they constantly
got wet and shorted out.

My E-Codes we 55w H1 and H3 bulbs so they draw the same power as the
stock 9003/9006 bulbs so the relays weren't really required. Not sure
which wattage bulbs you will be using but if you stay 55w you probably
won't need the relay harness.

Good luck,

Paul
