Jim: You might want to clarify further by referring to the Item numbers in this diagram:

I *think* you are talking about Item 36 but you might be talking about Item 32.
If you are talking about Item 36 (PN 4A0412377C) like this one: https://c1552172.ssl.cf0.rackcdn.com/33072_x800.jpg
then if you are running lowering springs, you might have to elongate the slots to provide enough movement to bring the
camber back into spec. However, that trick only works for Eibachs and Hyperco 1B3 sport suspension clone springs.
If you are running H&Rs, typically they lower the car too much for the slotting of Item 36 to work. In that case, you need to
modify Item 33 "concave support" using instructions provided to us by Igor Kessel years ago:

As posted in Charlie Smith's (RIP Charlie) website: http://www.elektro.com/~audi/alignment/
The Item 36 strut mounts can be changed by one person with the car on the ground, no jacking, with a minimum
of tools. BTDT last week on my 94 V8 S4 avant and at least 3 other times on other C4s including my 93 UrS4.
I wrote up a DIY awhile back that I should have read last week (using the O2 socket as a lever to nudge the strut
back to the marked location, etc):

Hope that helps.
