Hi all,
I crossed the issue of failing oil cooler a few years ago and replaced hoses and oil cooler with an alternate solution.
There are two adapters on the crank case that need replacing along with hoses and cooler. Parts required...
2 x adapters 18m-8MJ with o ring seal from Gates - these are steel M18x1.5 to 8AN adapter. I would recommend steel over aluminium. I got mine here https://www.motioncanada.ca/productDetail.jsp?sku=00339364
EMPI oil cooler (like this https://www.amazon.com/EMPI-00-9273-0-BUGGY-COOLER-PLATE/dp/B00EDON9YI/ref=sr_1_21?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1471264290&sr=1-21&keywords=empi+oil+cooler)
Hoses, 8AN connectors, length to suit with steel connectors. Got mine from eBay. Something like this http://www.ebay.ca/itm/8AN-Stainless-Steel-Braided-OIL-FUEL-Line-1-2m-STRAIGHT-90-SWIVEL-Hose-End-set-/121753262124?hash=item1c590f582c:g:TRcAAOSwGIRXcN9i&vxp=mtr
Total cost was about $200.00
Note I don't have an air box in my car as I replaced it with cone filter many years ago so this leaves a lot of space in engine compartment for new oil cooler.
Good luck,
Tony

Gary: This diagram shows the PNs for the hoses (Items 2 and 3):

The feed 4A0117125A and return 4A0117123A hoses are exclusive to the UrS4/S6 AAN
They are no longer in the NAmerican Dealer Parts system (you might have guessed that).
They are still in the Audi Tradition system (but expensive and they don't ship to the US at the moment)

The only important parts are the ends (their shape and size) and threads on the nuts. On that basis, it should be possible to get someone who works with cars, not tractors to cut off the hard pipes near the crimped fitting and install an appropriate hose, perhaps after treating the cut end of the pipe to a bead roll so the hose will be encouraged to stay in place with a clamp. Probably high temp hydraulic hose of the correct inner diameter would work.
