That original plastic clip lasted 20 years or so, I presume, or you probably would have a spare in the glove box? So that is not good enough? It certainly has to be better than any of the suggested fixes. Those may be good enough to keep the cable working while you order replacement clips, but I don’t see them as permanent replacements.
