[s-cars] Do all 4 tires have to be the same?

You have said the tires are relatively new, but I think you need to put that to an 
objective measurement instead of just a subjective guess.  Use a tread gauge on
the tires.  If you can replace the damaged tire with one with similar performance  
specs and within 4/32 tread wear, I would do it without hesitation.  

If you believe the new tire has much better snow performance, maybe 2 tires on 
that axle is the best solution.  If the tires are worn more than 4/32, they are not 
“relatively new”, but even then you should be able to find a tire shop to shave the 
new tire to match.
