Happened to me as well - had to open it from underneath by grabbing the
cable and really pulling down on it... I made two replacement clips out of
some stainless material I had laying around - folded the strip in half
(probably 1.5" long or so to start, less than 1/2" wide), drilled a hole in
through the ends of the folded side and left a nice round hollow section
for the cable to ride in; bolted them in from the bottom of the cross
member. Captured the plastic tubing around the hood release cable so it
doesn't wear the cable on the clips and ba-boom, probably last for longer
than the car will... Took a couple hours, but no zip tie madness.
McGyver would have used chewing gum and duck tape....and it would have
exploded.
