Jim: Good find. This might be the source of other undocumented G40 cam sensors. I liked your short term solution - clean the G40 off and button things back up (for now). 

Regarding the long term solution, i.e. replacement of the cam seal, I took the opportunity to write-up a draft procedure that should help you.
