Jim,

I'll be on my 5th winter season with my 225/50/16 Yokohama IceGuard
tires. They have been excellent tires for my S6. I do most of my
driving on the highway - 70-80 miles per day on daily driver and 200
every weekend to the mountains for skiing. They are still available in
225/50/16 and I believe they are stud-able although mine are not.

I can't offer comments about other sizes and pros or cons but after
running Goodyear Wintersport M3s for 10+ years on the S6 and other cars
I can say I've been impressed with the IceGuard's longevity. They have
been decent handling on the dry and pretty quiet for a snow tire. The
Wintersports handled better but also only got 3 maybe 4 winters out of them.

I am finding very few choices in the 225/50-16 size actually, and was wondering if it would be that big a deal to go with a 225/55-16, as that seems to give me several more options available. I’m sure the 215/55-16 option is out there as well. Thoughts and suggestions? Hoping to find something around $100 per tire…..thanks!
