Thanks for the responses so far, guys. I live in the mountains of Colorado and see all kinds of different conditions, but mostly drive a lot of Interstate with a speed limit of 75mph. I’m not too concerned about the 225 width, I actually prefer the extra tread and have no problems with “floating,” just want to be sure that with a stock suspension height that I’d be able to run the 225/55-16 without a clearance issue. Seems like I have plenty of room but just want to be sure. Thanks!

Jim,

If you're doing a good amount of winter driving on snow covered roads, including unplowed roads, I'd go with the taller, narrower tire. Overall circumference won't be much different.

On the other hand, if you're only seeing occasional slush and ice, I'd go with the wider tire.

Either way I'd suggest taking a look at the latest Nokians. I'm running the R2s on three of my cars and it's a wonderful tire!

Best,

Lee

I am finding very few choices in the 225/50-16 size actually, and was wondering if it would be that big a deal to go with a 225/55-16, as that seems to give me several more options available. I’m sure the 215/55-16 option is out there as well. Thoughts and suggestions? Hoping to find something around $100 per tire…..thanks!
