Jim: As Cody said, the top strut mount bearing is used to set the camber on a C4 Audi. Unless the strut towers were tweaked in an accident, the settings, i.e. the amount of slot showing, should be the same
on both sides. The usual issue with these mounts is if you have aftermarket lowering springs, the springs result in too much negative camber. With Eibach springs, you could lengthen the slots with a die
grinder or the like to get enough movement in the strut top to bring the camber alignment back into spec. With most of the H&R springs, you couldn't slot the mount enough to get the camber into spec. The
result was a need for aftermarket top mounts, e.g. those from 2 Bennet (which also allow caster adjustment that the stock mounts do not) *OR* you needed to follow Igor Kessel's lead and redrill the concave
mount.
