Hi Gary. I tossed the original Bose system a few years ago when the controls started losing functionality and several of the speakers were shot from my son turning the volume up to high for too long. I went to my favorite car stereo shop and they set me up with a wonderful Alpine system with a pre-amp and a sub-woofer in the trunk. We replaced all the speakers with factory sizes so the whole thing looks stock except for Alpine unit in the dash and the subwoofer in the trunk. No modifications to the dash opening were necessary. We also chucked the 10-CD cartridge unit in the trunk which gained me a bit of trunk space to compensate for the space now occupied by the sub-woofer. The new system has Satellite radio, HD radio, standard radio, CD, Bluetooth and USB so I can play songs from my smart phone. The system also provides hands-free phone with a little microphone mounted up by the sun visor. These guys are pros and they know how to do this sort of installation really well. It was worth it to me to have them do the installation. I'm sure there's a good shop like this near you.
Good luck and let us know how it works out.

Subject: [s-cars] Bose stereo replacement
I'm thinking about upgrading the now antique cassette player in my 94 S4 I'd appreciate any recommendations or tips about problems I might encounter in this process thanks in advance.
