[s-cars] Your Thoughts on Audi A4 Recall

Hi guys,

 

Just seeking the thoughts of the group on a safety recall (19M1) by Audi for
2013-17 A4s with the 2L engine. Apparently there have been instances of the
electric coolant pump "smouldering". The issue is claimed to be caused by
debris in the coolant. The fix is to turn off the power to the pump if it
sends any overheat fault code!

 

My questions are: where is the debris coming from significant enough to clog
the pump? Why is the fix to turn off the pump and not find the source of the
debris?

 

Does the A4 electric coolant pump perform the same function as the S6
auxilliary water pump? That is only on when engine is off and F98 switch
indicates temp is above 110 deg F.

 

Would like to hear your thought.
