A4 2.0T
Mazdaspeed 6
Subaru Legacy GT Group B
SAAB 9-5 Aero / 9-3 Aero

The SAABs won’t give you AWD, but with a set of Nokian Hakkapelittas they are still competent on a snowy mountain road, and there are a lot of very nice well maintained examples to be had for under $5k.

However, there is really no ideal replacement for a C4!
