AND, since I don't ever plan on selling my urq, who cares what it's worth?
If it doesn't cost much to buy (or replace) one in the event of a boo-boo,
that means insurance should be cheaper. Part of what I love about urqs is
that they are forgotten or undiscovered gems. I like knowing I'm driving
something that's rare and unknown, and I'm not talking about Chevette
Diesels. Maybe this is going to my head, but, in production terms, price,
and initial performance, Ferrari 308's are good to compare with. Today, the
urq, IMHO, was a decided cool-factor advantage over "Magnum PI's" car. And
try maintaining a 308 on an urq maintenance budget!

As for value, or worth, as somebody said, a car's value is only what a buyer
is willing to pay for it and a seller is willing to take.  When these two
numbers match, that is the definition of value, or worth.  If nobody is
willing to pay extra for sunroof delete (or something), then it's not worth
anything more, even if it's the only car like that in the world.

Frankly, I don't think the US urq will ever be a "collectable" in the way we
would all like.  The US cars were overpriced, underpowered, and laden with
ugly bumpers.  Also we only got the most primitive version (bascially); our
market never got the newer technologies like the Euro market did (i.e.,
MC/MB or 3B/RR versions).  Audi was not a big time player in the car market
here when the urq was available, rather Audi was ramping up in the early/mid
'80's but the urquattro was probably erased from the minds of many with the
whole 60 Minutes debacle.

IMO, again as others have said, the "value" of the urq lies in the ownership
experience.  I have made some great friends through ownership of the car.  I
enjoy getting together with other old school Audi guys.  I enjoy having a
car that "nobody" else has.  I enjoy the driving sensations the car
provides.  It was great to drive my car to Monterey '99.  The urq's got lots
of attention there, which was cool.  I caravaned and hung out with 5 other
urq Listers at Steamboat a couple years ago.  I see other listers in the
Denver area fairly regularly, whether it be for a beer, group dinner, or
working on cars.  It is awesome to have an urq amid a sea of A4/S4, A6 etc.
Yes I know, I have an A4, too, and I appreciate that car very much for
different reasons.  Personally I think the stock urq leaves a lot to be
desired, so modifications add to the "value" because to me, the "value" is
not a dollar figure.
