The electric modules do indeed use a momentary switch
to switch them, so a window switch will work.  As for
powering them off, they do default to the "unlock"
position when powered off.  A simple check will help
figure out how to hook up the vacuum lines.  I found
them to get hot even in the "open" or "standby"
position.  Since they only need to be powered to lock
the diffs, I saw no need to tempt fate and power them
when not in use.  I have had no problems so far.
