[urq] Well, its ready... almost.

Thanks to the encouragement of family and friends, a couple of weeks of
focused labor, my ur q is about ready to move under it's own power once
again. The wiring harnesses, interior, fuel and brake plumbing was
completed early last week. The newly powder coated, rebushed, new
springed and rebushed rear suspension was assembled and installed
Friday. The 3B/RR engine and AUM transmission met each other for the
first time coupled with a new Centerforce high performance "street"
clutch late Saturday night. Monday I rented an engine crane and pulled
the drivetrain into it's new home, with the help of my neighbor. That
went remarkably smoothly.

Tuesday was spent connecting up all the misc. hydraulic system, clutch,
oil, fuel and coolant plumbing in the engine compartment. Yesterday the
front suspension, axles and brakes went together, capped off by the
return of the car to the ground on it's own suspension. Today I spent
cleaning up misc. park brake cable routing (had to buy another new set,
what I did with the other new set I had escapes me) as well as some
other odds and ends. Also forgot the little plastic caps for the ABS
sensors, which now cost $2 each. Tomorrow I hope to refill the
hydraulic system and get the ABS system and clutch bled without getting
ATE blue all over the new (well, I guess you could say that it is new)
paint. I read somewhere that it took the original crews roughly 38 hrs
to build an ur quattro by hand. Those must have been some FAST hands...

Anyway, once I get the new battery in the car I will do a thorough
testing of the electrical system, followed by pre-oiling the engine
through the oil pressure sensor using a slick pressurized reservoir that
I borrowed. Assuming that all goes well, I can theoretically start the
engine and move the car (not drive - no exhaust past the downpipe and no
glass yet) by the end of the weekend. Then I need to get the car
flatbedded to get the alignment set and the suspension components all
torqued to spec. Hopefully I can get the windshield and back glass
installed (I don't want to mess up the new B and C pillar trim myself.
Better let someone else do it so I have someone else to blame.) by the
next door glass shop after the alignment. From there, its up on the
rack for the exhaust. Assuming all goes well, by the end of next week
my "not so ur" quattro may well be back on the road.

H#ck. Nobody's gonna believe that... Oh well, it was a good try.
April fools....

Steve
